Kitchen Remodel: Phase 1

Phase 1 to our kitchen remodeling is finally complete! We've been planning this remodeling project for quite sometime and have been waiting for Cam to have a week off of school so we could work in the evenings on the kitchen, and when he finally did, we got to work.

Our phase 1 consisted of painting the cabinets, changing out the hardware, putting in recess lighting which is what Cameron is doing here (which Cam figured out how to do quite successfully and he's very proud of it),

and painting the walls. Phase 2 will come with time and that will include new countertops and a tile or off-white brick backsplash. It's been a long couple of weeks painting 4-5 hours every night for 8 days straight, on top of screwing, bolting, knocking down, patching, sanding, etc. to every inch of our kitchen to finally get it to look like this...

Before...
After...

There were originally cabinets above the stove so we had to have a countertop microwave, but back in January, Cam shortened the cabinets, turned it into a shelf for my cookbooks and we installed an over-the-stove microwave. I love that he's such a handy man...

Here's a good picture of Cam's awesome recess lighting which is one of my favorite parts about the kitchen...
The cabinets are actually a cream color with brushed nickel hardware and the walls are an olive green. Our countertops will be granite-looking with browns and blacks and yellows in it and the backsplash will add a lot too when we get around to phase 2. So despite a couple little things we still have to finish, like getting a matching valance for the second window, and touching up paint, we have successfully remodeled our kitchen and we love the way it looks. Although, throughout this project Cam and I agreed that on our next house, having the kitchen already updated is a must because painting cabinets is not fun enough to do this project again!

It looks awesome! The kitchen is not a room I would want to take on, especially the cabinets.

It looks so good. I love the color of the walls. It takes so long to work on homes. We are in the process of finishing the basement and after a week of working ALL day we are taking a break!
